Origin of Whatsminer
Whatsminer is a creation of the mining equipment manufacturer MicroBT. In 2016, a month after he left Bitmain due to a compensation dispute, Zuoxing Yang founded MicroBT. Yang was one of Bitmain’s top designers for the Antminer S9.
About $22 million was raised by the company from Chinese sources. It informed Bloomberg in October 2018 that the first half of that year was profitable.
